Meet Our Team

Clare Jamieson

Manager

I have worked at CY since September 2007. My role involves coordinating and managing our programme of events/activities/clubs, managing sessional staff and looking after volunteers. My favourite thing about working at CY is that no day is the same and you never quite know what you will be involved with next.

Cat McMillan

Youth Development Worker (Employability & Wellbeing)

I have worked at Canongate Youth since May 2014. The best part of this job is seeing the change in young people from the start of working with them, to the point of them moving on to other things...and the relationships built with them in the meantime. I also have a great team that I work with and there is never a dull moment in the CY office!

Suzanne Quinan

Senior Youth Development Worker (Edinburgh Together)

I have worked at Canongate for too many years to mention- let's just say I've been here the longest and I can't go onto the front street without meeting a stream of young people or family members past and present. Over the years my role has been that of a generic youth worker working both in our open community provision and providing services to local schools through group work and one to one support. Over the past year, my role has changed slightly to having more of a focus on the work that we do within schools whilst still maintaining some contact through our open provision. I love having the opportunity to work in such a positive way with young people and hope to continue to do so for many more years!

Sima Carrasco

Wellbeing Worker

'I started working at Canongate Youth in September 2018. My role involves developing and delivering support sessions for young people in order to foster wellbeing. My favourite thing about the job so far is exploring approaches to supporting the young people and seeing them becoming more confident and positive. I enjoy being part of such an amazing team!'

Matthew Parsons

Youth Development Worker (Schools)

I have worked at CY since 2015; initially as a sessional youth worker at the Senior Club and also at Open All Hours. I am now Youth Work Organiser at the Senior Club, and have very recently joined the Employability Team as an Employability Support Worker. I love working at CY, both the young people and staff team here are great, and it is incredibly satisfying knowing that what we do as an organisation makes such a positive impact on the young people we work with.

Jennifer Airlie

Youth Development Worker (NOLB Activity Agreement)

I started at Canongate Youth in December 2020 as a Youth Development Worker for Activity Agreements. The best part of my job is the young people - getting to meet amazing people and helping them become the best versions of themselves. I work with a great team who are all kind, helpful and want the best for everyone. I love my job because I help people who are really struggling at times and seeing them change their lives for the better is the best thing, it's the best feeling.

Ruby McKinnell

Lead Youth Worker (Over 12s)

I have worked at CY since January 2016, after starting as a volunteer prior to this at Open All Hours and Music Café in 2015. You will now find me in the majority of both the Under and Over 12’s clubs that run throughout the week here at CY. I thoroughly enjoy working as part of this team; meeting and building positive relationships with the children and young people; and I love the fact that no two days in the clubs are the same!

Julia Izquierdo-Mantecon

Children's Worker

I first joined the team at Canongate Youth in December 2017, when I began volunteering at Banana Club, and have now moved onto joining the team as a Children’s Worker. I work as part of the Under 12’s team (Banana Club, Space@6 and Play Rangers) where we do loads of different activities indoors, from arts and crafts, cooking and games to playing outdoors. I love this job because I get to see children and young people have fun while at the same time learning and growing as individuals, but also because I get to channel my inner child, have fun with them and learn from what they have to say.

Andy Porteous

I started working for Canongate Youth in May 2019 as a Well-Being worker for children and young people aged between 8 and 12 years. The best part of my role is watching young people grow and develop new skills to help improve their mental health and well-being. I feel really fortunate to be part of such an exceptional team all doing amazing work to help make vulnerable individuals life’s better.
